Television in Australia has quite an interesting history. From a very slow uptake when black and white TV was introduced, Australians flocked to colour television when it made its debut. When Did Experimental Broadcasts start?
The first experimental television broadcast occurred in Melbourne on 30th September, 1929. Regular broadcasts began in Brisbane by 1934, after a long build up of test transmissions. It wasn’t until 1954 that proper broadcasts started, in Sydney and Melbourne.
